Michigan's Cornerstone Partnership
Monroe County Link 2.0
Priority Action: Create a countywide Integrated Parks & Recreation and Non-Motorized Master Plan.
This priority action was developed based on the desire to elevate the quality of life in the county with a
focus on recreation and natural assets. The purpose is twofold: the first is to attract and retain residents
and businesses by providing first-class parks and recreation opportunities; the second is to attract visitors
and continue to build tourism as a key driver in the local economy.
Why This Action?
- A strong desire to improve collaboration between local governments and agencies
- An opportunity to continue to build local pride in the county
- A desire to create a simple and consistent user experience between city, county, and state parks within the county
- Create the ability to market the parks and recreational opportunities seamlessly through consistent branding, wayfinding, and marketing
- Improve the development of non-motorized recreation in the county through increased collaboration of plans and funding joint projects between various local governments and agencies
- Increase representation on/within local, regional, and state funding entities
- A plan to integrate and elevate new opportunities in the county as they arise (i.e. Crystal Waters State Game/Recreation Area)
- A desire to create a simple and consistent user experience between city, county, state parks, the National Battlefield Park, and the International Wildlife Refuge
